Free Safety Plan Builder
A guided crisis prevention planning tool
Build a Free Safety Plan
This free safety plan builder helps you create a personalized safety plan based on the Stanley-Brown Safety Planning Intervention. Walk through six guided steps to identify warning signs, coping strategies, and support resources, then generate a printable one-page plan.
The Six Steps of a Safety Plan
The Stanley-Brown model includes six steps, each building on the last: (1) Recognizing warning signs that a crisis may be developing. (2) Internal coping strategies you can use on your own. (3) People and social settings that provide distraction. (4) People you can ask for help. (5) Professionals and agencies you can contact. (6) Making the environment safe by reducing access to means.
Who Is This For?
This tool is for therapists, counselors, crisis workers, social workers, and individuals. Safety planning is a core component of suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and emergency mental health care. It is recommended by the VA, SAMHSA, and the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.
